Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the cusp of achieving a historic milestone, needing just 97 runs to become the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. The dynamic left-hander has the opportunity to surpass Sunil Gavaskar's 49-year-old record when India takes on England in the second Test at Edgbaston, starting on July 2nd.

Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a significant positive for India, especially during a period of transition in Test cricket. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley showcased his exceptional talent, although it wasn't enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a challenging 371-run target for England, brilliant batting performances from Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root helped England secure a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Jaiswal's individual form remains a key source of hope for India as they seek to rebound in the Edgbaston Test. In just 20 Tests, he has already accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who reached the milestone in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar went on to become the first cricketer to score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, reaching the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his stylish stroke play and remarkable composure, Jaiswal now has the opportunity to join and potentially surpass these cricketing giants, providing India with a crucial boost in a must-win Test match.
